Commitment to environmental protection

Sherwood Court actively involves its residents in different green initiatives to arouse their awareness of environmental protection. Residents are encouraged to adopt the 5Rs concept (Refuse, Replace, Reduce, Reuse and Recycle) to minimise waste generation. Environmental campaigns such as collection of electronic waste for recycling and used book donations are organised. Sherwood Court has also built its own garden farm to promote environmental awareness among residents through planting activities. Sherwood Court’s efforts in protecting the environment have earned them recognition in various ‘green’ competitions.

Excellence in employee management

To encourage the continuous development of staff, subsidies are provided for external training courses. Recognition is given to service excellence by way of gift coupons presented to the best employee voted for by the residents. Sherwood Court takes the health and safety of its staff seriously – a zero accident rate has been achieved since 2000. The estate has also been awarded the Safe and Healthy Estate with Excellence Performance in May 2008.

Achievements in community development

‘We want to contribute to the development of the nearby community,’ said Dickie Chung, Assistant General Manager of Citybase, ‘so we visit the elderly in the area regularly. We also provide job opportunities for the disadvantaged within the region such as low-skilled workers, middle aged women and youth-at-risk.’ In addition, Sherwood Court has partnered with the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Hong Kong to organise a community programme to provide vocational training and job opportunities for teenagers.

Overall management quality and effectiveness

Information about the company’s performance is made available to residents through regular newsletters, and internal monthly reviews are carried out to discuss issues concerning the estate such as transportation, security, recreation, community and the environment. Sherwood Court also actively promotes environmental and social responsibility amongst sub-contractors.
