Emerald Award Winner - HSBC Living Business Awards 2008
‘We are delighted that our business concept and corporate responsibility performance have been recognised by many through the HSBC Living Business Awards.’
Home of the Elderly Consultancy Limited (HoE) provides two main types of services – geriatric physiotherapy to help weak elders by relieving pain and recovering physical functionality, and nursing home one-stop solutions to provide information and advice for families on choosing suitable nursing homes. The company has served approximately 10,000 elders and their families since its incorporation in 2005.
Commitment to environmental protection
HoE has focused its environmental protection efforts in its office and among staff. ‘We recycle office materials to minimise waste, and target to achieve a paperless office within five years,’ said Jeff. Staff are encouraged to use public transport and arrange job duties by region in order to minimise the number of trips undertaken. HoE believes that raising environmental awareness is fundamental to changing behaviour and achieving the desired environmental outcomes. Therefore two staff have been assigned as environmental ambassadors who are responsible for organising environmental awareness programs.
Excellence in employee management
HoE has designated a ‘learning’ team to arrange training and knowledge sharing activities across the company. Weekly operational meetings and lunch gatherings help to enhance internal communications. A team event is also organised on a monthly basis to enhance staff engagement and team spirit. A set of occupational health and safety guidelines is made available for staff to ensure a healthy and safe workplace.
Achievements in community development
HoE partners with other non-governmental organisations in contributing to the community. Highlights include assigning a dedicated staff member to coach students from the Hong Kong Down’s Syndrome Association and supporting ‘Job Shadowing’ organised by the Junior Achievement Hong Kong as mentors of the programme. In addition, distributions of free rice have been arranged for social service organisations.
Overall management quality and effectiveness
HoE maintains its effectiveness and service quality through strict adherence to industry standards such as professional geriatric care managers and professional guidelines, making regular calls and visits to ensure elders and their families are satisfied with the services provided at the nursing home. Key performance indicators covering consumer satisfaction, cash flow, brand and profit have been established to monitor and evaluate the company’s performance.
Jeff concluded, ‘By the joint effort of all staff in demonstrating corporate responsibility, we are gradually gaining the trust of the elderly, their families and also community organisations, which brings about huge benefits to our business services.’
